The Unitronics V100-17-RS4X is a high-performance isolated RS232/RS485 serial communication module designed for compatible Unitronics Vision™ and Samba™ PLC controllers. This plug-in expansion module adds an additional communication port while providing galvanic isolation to help protect controllers and connected devices from electrical noise, ground loops and voltage differences commonly encountered in industrial environments.
Supporting both RS232 and RS485 communication standards, the V100-17-RS4X enables reliable connectivity with HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial instrumentation, barcode readers, drives and other serial communication devices. The communication interface can be configured for either RS232 point-to-point communication or RS485 multi-drop networking using simple DIP switch settings.
Unlike the standard V100-17-RS4 module, the V100-17-RS4X incorporates an isolated communication interface, making it particularly suitable for demanding industrial automation applications where communication reliability and electrical protection are essential. The module supports RS485 networks containing up to 32 devices and communication speeds up to 115.2 kbps.
The V100-17-RS4X provides the same communication flexibility as the standard RS4 module while adding galvanic isolation between the controller and communication network. This additional protection helps minimise the effects of electrical interference, ground potential differences and transient voltages, improving overall system reliability.
The module supports both short-distance RS232 communications and long-distance RS485 networking. RS485 operation enables multi-drop industrial communication networks spanning up to 1200 metres while supporting communication with multiple devices on a single bus.
