Why Choose the Mersen ATM30/40 Fast-Acting Fuse?

The Mersen ATM30/40 is a specialised fast-acting midget fuse engineered to provide dependable supplementary overcurrent protection for industrial control circuits, capacitor banks, power supplies and electrical equipment with high inrush currents. As part of the trusted Mersen Amp-Trap® ATM series, it combines rapid fault interruption with enhanced inrush current withstand capability for demanding industrial applications.

Although identified as ATM30/40, this fuse is electrically rated at 30 A and 600 V AC/DC. The unique 30/40 designation indicates its ability to withstand substantially higher inrush currents and more demanding duty cycles than a standard 30 A ATM fuse, making it particularly suitable for capacitor protection and other applications with repetitive surge currents.

Manufactured in the standard 10 × 38 mm midget fuse format, the ATM30/40 offers a 100 kA interrupting rating, current-limiting performance and compatibility with standard midget fuse holders. Like all ATM-series fuses, it is intended for supplementary protection and is not suitable for branch-circuit protection.

Key Advantages

  • Designed specifically for circuits with high inrush currents.
  • 30 A current rating with enhanced surge withstand capability.
  • 600 V AC/DC voltage rating for demanding industrial applications.
  • Fast-acting protection against overloads and short circuits.
  • Current-limiting construction helps minimise fault energy.
  • Standard 10 × 38 mm midget format for straightforward installation.

Key Features

  • Mersen Amp-Trap® ATM series.
  • 30 A rated current.
  • Special 30/40 high-inrush version.
  • 600 V AC rated voltage.
  • 600 V DC rated voltage.
  • 100 kA interrupting rating.
  • Fast-acting current-limiting design.
  • Ferrule terminals for standard midget fuse holders.

Designed for High Inrush Current Applications

Unlike a standard 30 A ATM fuse, the Mersen ATM30/40 has been engineered to withstand significantly higher inrush currents and repeated cycling without nuisance operation. This makes it particularly well suited for capacitor banks and similar industrial circuits where high transient currents occur during energisation.

Its fast-acting current-limiting construction rapidly clears genuine fault conditions while maintaining excellent protection for connected equipment and helping reduce thermal and mechanical stress throughout the electrical system.

Typical Applications

  • Capacitor bank protection.
  • Industrial control panels.
  • Power supplies.
  • Automation systems.
  • OEM electrical equipment.
  • Industrial circuits with high inrush currents.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mersen ATM30/40 used for?

The ATM30/40 is designed for supplementary protection of industrial circuits, particularly capacitor banks and other applications with high inrush currents.

Why is it called ATM30/40 if it is rated at 30 A?

The fuse remains a 30 A fuse. The 30/40 designation indicates an enhanced ability to withstand higher inrush currents and tougher duty cycles compared with a standard ATM30 fuse.

What voltage is the ATM30/40 rated for?

The fuse is rated for applications up to 600 V AC and 600 V DC.

Is the ATM30/40 suitable for capacitor protection?

Yes. Mersen specifically offers the 30/40 version for applications such as capacitor protection where repeated inrush currents occur.

Can the ATM30/40 be used for branch-circuit protection?

No. Like all ATM-series fuses, it is intended for supplementary protection only and is not approved for branch-circuit protection.

Trusted Protection for High-Inrush Industrial Applications

Mersen Amp-Trap® ATM30/40 fuses provide dependable supplementary protection for industrial equipment requiring exceptional inrush current withstand while maintaining rapid fault interruption.
