Why Choose the Mersen FR8AM40V1 Cylindrical Fuse-Link?

The Mersen FR8AM40V1 is a compact aM cylindrical fuse-link designed to provide dependable short-circuit protection for motors, motor starters and associated industrial control equipment. Manufactured by Mersen, it forms part of the established 8 × 31 mm ferrule fuse-link range for low-voltage motor applications.

Its aM partial-range operating characteristic allows the fuse to withstand the temporary inrush currents produced when a motor starts while rapidly interrupting damaging short-circuit currents. As an aM fuse-link, it should be coordinated with a suitable overload protection device to provide complete motor circuit protection.

Rated at 1 A and 400 V AC, the FR8AM40V1 provides reliable current limitation in a compact cylindrical format. Its ceramic body and silver-plated contacts support consistent electrical performance in control panels, machinery and industrial motor circuits.

Key Advantages

  • Purpose-designed for motor circuit short-circuit protection.
  • 1 A rated current for low-current motor and control applications.
  • 400 V AC IEC rated voltage.
  • 20 kA breaking capacity for reliable fault interruption.
  • Current-limiting operation helps reduce thermal and mechanical fault stress.
  • Compact ferrule format for space-conscious industrial equipment.

Key Features

  • Mersen FR8AM40V1 cylindrical fuse-link.
  • aM utilisation category for motor circuit protection.
  • 1 A rated current.
  • 400 V AC rated voltage.
  • 20 kA AC breaking capacity.
  • 8 × 31 mm series format.
  • Partial-range protection against short-circuit currents.
  • Ceramic body with silver-plated contacts.
  • Non-indicating version for compatible cylindrical fuse holders.

Reliable Short-Circuit Protection for Motor Circuits

Electric motors can draw substantially more current during start-up than during normal operation. The aM characteristic of the Mersen FR8AM40V1 allows these temporary starting currents to pass without unnecessary fuse operation while providing rapid protection against severe short-circuit faults.

Because the FR8AM40V1 is a partial-range fuse-link, it does not provide overload protection across the complete overcurrent range. It should therefore be installed alongside a correctly selected overload relay or motor protection device to protect the motor, conductors and switching equipment.

Typical Applications

  • Low-current motor starters.
  • Industrial control panels.
  • Motor control equipment.
  • Contactors and overload relay assemblies.
  • Machine building and OEM equipment.
  • Pumps, fans and small industrial machinery.
