The ABB TR6/A is an openable toroidal transformer designed for residual current and earth leakage monitoring in low-voltage electrical installations. As part of the ABB TR toroidal transformer series, it works with compatible residual current monitors to detect current imbalance in the active conductors passing through the transformer.
With a large 300 mm internal diameter, the TR6/A is particularly suitable for installations containing large conductors, busbar arrangements or groups of cables. Its openable core simplifies installation around existing conductors, avoiding the need to disconnect and feed installed cables through a closed toroid.
The TR6/A combines a 500/1 transformation ratio, 1000 mA minimum measurable current and IP20 protection. It can be installed in any position and operates across a temperature range of -10 to +70 °C, providing a practical sensing solution for industrial switchboards, distribution systems and electrical protection applications.
Toroidal transformers monitor the vector sum of the currents flowing through the active conductors of an electrical circuit. During normal operation these currents balance, while leakage to earth produces a residual current that can be detected by the toroid and evaluated by the connected residual current monitoring device.
The ABB TR6/A is particularly useful for larger installations because its 300 mm openable core can be fitted around existing conductors. When combined with compatible ABB residual current monitoring equipment, it provides dependable sensing for earth leakage supervision in industrial and commercial electrical distribution systems.
