The nVent HOFFMAN PLCS1X2 is a Type X leak compensation purge and pressurization system designed for exterior mounting on electrical enclosures installed in hazardous locations. Operating with a 230 V AC electrical interface, the system helps protect general-purpose electrical and electronic equipment by establishing and maintaining positive pressure inside the enclosure.
The PLCS1X2 initially purges the protected enclosure with clean air or inert gas to remove potentially hazardous gases or dust before maintaining positive internal pressure through leak compensation. The system consists of a control unit and relief valve, with an automatic purge cycle, rapid purge valve, visual purge status indication and local system-status indication. Type X operation also provides power disconnection when adequate pressurisation is lost or has not been established.
Designed for enclosures with a volume of typically 60 ft³ or less, the PLCS1X2 uses a dry, clean protective air or inert gas supply between 60–115 psi (4–8 bar). Exterior components are manufactured from 316L stainless steel or corrosion-resistant composite materials, while the system operates across an ambient temperature range of -20 to +55 °C, making it suitable for demanding industrial hazardous-area applications.
