Why Choose the ABB ELR96P Residual Current Monitor?
The ABB ELR96P is an electronic Type A residual current monitor and relay designed for monitoring and protection of low-voltage electrical distribution networks. As part of ABB’s Earth Monitoring Devices range, it operates with an external toroidal transformer to detect residual currents and provide a trip signal to associated circuit protection equipment.
Designed for front-panel installation, the ELR96P combines adjustable residual current sensitivity and time-delay settings with clear status indication and test/reset controls. When used with an appropriate ABB toroidal transformer and an MCB or MCCB equipped with the necessary tripping accessory, it provides a flexible residual current protection system for commercial and industrial installations.
The ELR96P supports 110, 230 and 400 V AC auxiliary supply voltages and operates on 50/60 Hz systems. Its 96 × 96 mm front-panel format and compatibility with external ABB TR-series toroidal transformers make it particularly suitable for switchboards, distribution panels and industrial control equipment requiring adjustable earth leakage monitoring.

Reliable Earth Leakage Monitoring and Protection
The ABB ELR96P operates with an external toroidal transformer through which the live conductors of the protected circuit are routed. Under normal conditions the vector sum of these currents is effectively zero; when an insulation fault or leakage to earth creates an imbalance, the toroidal transformer provides a residual current signal to the ELR96P.
The relay evaluates this signal against the selected residual current and time-delay settings and can operate its output contacts when the configured threshold is exceeded. Used together with appropriate ABB MCBs or MCCBs and associated tripping equipment, the ELR96P provides a coordinated approach to earth leakage monitoring and residual current protection in low-voltage distribution systems.
