The IMO Y9A415 is a dedicated electronic timer for star-delta motor starters, designed to provide controlled and reliable transition from star operation to delta operation during motor starting. Developed for industrial motor-control applications, it provides an adjustable timing range of 1–20 seconds and supports a wide 110–415 V AC control-voltage range.
Star-delta starting helps reduce the initial current drawn by a three-phase induction motor by initially connecting the motor windings in star configuration. After the selected run-up period, the Y9A415 controls the changeover to delta operation so the motor can continue running at its normal operating voltage.
The timer incorporates an inherent 20–30 ms dwell period between the star and delta switching stages. This brief delay helps prevent the star and delta contactors from being energised simultaneously, supporting safe and dependable motor-starter operation. Its DIN-rail format makes the timer suitable for installation inside industrial control panels and motor-starter assemblies.
Directly starting a large induction motor can create a substantial inrush current, potentially causing voltage disturbances and increased mechanical stress. A star-delta starter reduces this initial demand by starting the motor with its windings connected in star before changing to delta for normal operation.
The IMO Y9A415 controls the timing of this sequence. Once the adjustable run-up period has elapsed, the timer releases the star contactor and introduces a short dwell period before energising the delta contactor. Correct installation and coordination with the associated contactors and interlocks are essential for reliable operation.
