Why Choose the Pizzato FM2176 Rope-Actuated Position Switch?
The Pizzato FM2176 is a heavy-duty rope-actuated position switch engineered for dependable mechanical position detection in demanding industrial environments. Unlike conventional plunger or roller lever limit switches, the FM2176 is operated remotely via a tensioned rope, making it ideal where the switching point is difficult to access or where movement occurs over a larger area.
Manufactured by Pizzato Elettrica, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of industrial safety and position switches, the FM2176 delivers reliable switching performance, robust construction and long service life. Its durable painted metal housing, slow-action contacts and high ingress protection make it an excellent choice for OEM machinery, production lines, conveyors and material-handling equipment.
Whether installed on new machinery or used as a replacement component during maintenance, the FM2176 provides dependable mechanical sensing for industrial control systems where reliability and repeatability are essential.

How a Rope-Actuated Position Switch Works
A rope-actuated position switch operates by transferring movement from a mechanical rope directly to the switch mechanism. This allows the switching point to be located away from the body of the switch, making it ideal where moving machine parts cannot directly contact a traditional plunger or roller lever.
The FM2176 is particularly suited to machinery where mechanical movement must be monitored over a wider operating area. The rope can be connected to moving guards, sliding assemblies or machine mechanisms, providing reliable position feedback without requiring direct contact between the moving equipment and the switch itself.
Its rope actuator maintains the contact block in the actuated position during its normal resting state. As a result, the electrical state of the contacts is inverted until the rope is operated, a characteristic that should be considered during machine design and commissioning.
Built for Harsh Industrial Environments
Industrial machinery is exposed to vibration, dust, coolant, moisture and frequent cleaning. The FM2176 has been designed specifically to withstand these demanding conditions. Its rugged metal enclosure provides excellent mechanical strength, while IP67 and IP69K protection help prevent contamination from water and airborne particles.
The slow-action switching mechanism provides consistent operation over thousands of cycles, helping to reduce unexpected downtime and minimise maintenance requirements. This makes the FM2176 an excellent choice for machine builders, system integrators and maintenance engineers seeking dependable long-term performance.
