Why Choose the IMO AA1/AN-3A Inductive Proximity Switch?

The IMO AA1/AN-3A is an ultra-miniature Ø3 mm inductive proximity switch designed for reliable non-contact detection of metallic objects in compact industrial automation applications. Its miniature cylindrical construction makes it particularly useful where installation space is restricted and conventional M8, M12 or larger proximity sensors would be impractical.

This AA1 series sensor features a shielded, flush-mountable design with a nominal sensing distance of 1 mm. It provides a normally open NPN output, operates from a 10–30 V DC supply and supports switching frequencies up to 3.5 kHz, allowing it to detect rapidly moving components in automated machinery.

The AA1/AN-3A combines an AISI 303 stainless steel housing with a PBT active sensing face and an integral 2 m PUR cable. Measuring only Ø3 × 22 mm, the sensor also provides IP-rated environmental protection, LED output indication and integrated electrical protection against short circuits, reverse polarity and inductive loads.

Key Advantages

  • Ultra-miniature Ø3 mm housing enables installation in confined machinery and automation equipment.
  • 1 mm nominal sensing distance provides precise non-contact metallic object detection.
  • Shielded flush mounting allows the sensor to be integrated directly into surrounding metal structures.
  • NPN normally open output provides straightforward integration with compatible PLC and machine control inputs.
  • Fast 3.5 kHz switching frequency supports high-speed detection and counting applications.
  • Robust AISI 303 stainless steel housing and PUR cable provide durability for industrial installations.

Key Features

  • IMO AA1 miniature inductive sensor series.
  • Ø3 mm cylindrical housing.
  • Shielded / flush-mountable sensing design.
  • 1 mm nominal sensing distance.
  • NPN normally open (NO) output.
  • 10–30 V DC operating voltage.
  • 2 m PUR integral cable with axial exit.
  • Yellow LED for output status indication.

Precise Non-Contact Metal Detection in Compact Machinery

The IMO AA1/AN-3A detects metallic targets using an electromagnetic field generated at its active sensing face. As a suitable metal object enters the sensing field, the sensor detects the resulting change and switches its NPN normally open output. Because there is no physical contact between the sensor and target, the sensing process avoids the mechanical wear associated with conventional limit switches.

Its Ø3 mm body and shielded construction allow the AA1/AN-3A to be installed flush within metal components while occupying very little space. The combination of a 1 mm nominal sensing distance and high switching frequency makes it particularly suitable for precise position detection, component presence monitoring, counting and machine sequencing where compact dimensions and rapid response are important.

Typical Applications

  • Metal component presence and absence detection.
  • Compact automated machinery and assembly equipment.
  • High-speed component counting and positioning.
  • Machine slide, actuator and mechanism position monitoring.
  • Packaging, handling and production machinery.
  • OEM equipment and factory automation systems with restricted installation space.
