The Carlo Gavazzi CA18FAF08BPA2IO is an advanced M18 flush-mount capacitive proximity sensor with IO-Link, designed for reliable non-contact detection in demanding industrial automation and process applications. Part of the Carlo Gavazzi CA18FA 4th Generation TRIPLESHIELD™ series, it combines an 8 mm rated sensing distance, adjustable sensitivity and intelligent sensor communication in a robust PTFE cylindrical housing.
The sensing range can be adjusted from approximately 2–10 mm, allowing the sensor to be configured for different target materials and installation conditions. Capacitive technology enables detection of both conductive and non-conductive materials, including liquids, plastics, glass, powders and granular products, making the CA18FAF08BPA2IO suitable for presence detection, level monitoring and material sensing.
Operating from a 10–40 V DC supply, the CA18FAF08BPA2IO provides configurable NPN/PNP and NO/NC switching together with IO-Link communication. Its 2 m PVC cable, flush M18 × 70 mm construction, improved EMC performance, ECOLAB compatibility and IP67, IP68 and IP69K protection make it particularly well suited to demanding machinery, process and washdown environments.
Capacitive proximity sensors detect changes in capacitance when a target enters the sensor's electrical field, allowing them to detect materials that cannot be sensed by conventional inductive proximity switches. The CA18FAF08BPA2IO can therefore be used with metals as well as plastics, glass, liquids, powders and granular materials, while its 2–10 mm adjustable sensing range enables the detection point to be optimised for the application.
The combination of a PTFE housing and IO-Link communication makes the CA18FAF08BPA2IO particularly useful in modern process and factory automation. IO-Link provides access to configurable parameters, process information and diagnostic data, while the robust housing and IP69K protection support installations exposed to moisture, aggressive cleaning procedures and demanding industrial operating conditions.
