The Carlo Gavazzi VR2A is a robust capacitive level sensor designed for non-contact detection of liquids, powders, granules and other materials in industrial tanks, hoppers and vessels. Part of the Carlo Gavazzi VR series, it provides a sensing distance of up to 8 mm and is intended for connection to a compatible external amplifier relay.
The VR2A features a cylindrical 30 mm diameter thermoplastic polyester housing with a 1½-inch pipe thread for direct installation into suitable process equipment. Its non-flush mounting design allows the sensor to detect changes in capacitance caused by the presence of material at the sensing face, providing reliable point-level monitoring without mechanical floats or moving components.
Designed for use with Carlo Gavazzi SV150, SV160, SV250 and SV260 amplifier relays, the VR2A operates from the associated amplifier circuit and uses a two-wire connection. It is supplied with a 2 m cable and provides IP67 protection, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial level-detection applications.
Capacitive level sensing works by detecting changes in capacitance around the sensor's active surface. When the material being monitored enters or leaves the sensing field, the electrical capacitance changes and the connected amplifier relay interprets this change as a level condition. This allows the VR2A to detect many types of material without requiring a mechanical float or direct mechanical actuation.
