Why Choose the Mersen FR8AM40V4 Cylindrical Fuse Link?

The Mersen FR8AM40V4 is a compact aM cylindrical fuse link designed to provide dependable short-circuit protection for motors and other industrial loads with high starting currents. Part of the established Mersen 8 × 32 mm IEC ferrule fuse range, it is suitable for motor starters, control panels and machinery requiring reliable current-limiting protection.

Its aM operating characteristic allows temporary motor starting currents to pass without unnecessary fuse operation while rapidly interrupting dangerous short-circuit currents. As an aM partial-range fuse, it should be used alongside a correctly selected overload relay or another suitable motor protection device.

With a rated current of 4 A, a rated voltage of 400 V AC and a compact 8 × 32 mm IEC format, the FR8AM40V4 provides a space-efficient protection solution for industrial motors, contactors and control equipment.

Key Advantages

  • Purpose-designed aM characteristic for motor circuit protection.
  • 4 A current rating for lower-current motor applications.
  • 400 V AC rated voltage for industrial electrical systems.
  • Allows normal motor starting currents while interrupting short-circuit faults.
  • Compact 8 × 32 mm cylindrical format for space-efficient installation.
  • High current-limiting performance helps protect downstream equipment.

Key Features

  • Mersen 8 × 32 mm aM cylindrical fuse-link series.
  • 4 A rated current.
  • 400 V AC rated voltage.
  • Partial-range aM protection characteristic.
  • Ceramic body for dependable thermal and mechanical performance.
  • Silver-plated contacts for reliable electrical conductivity.
  • Suitable for use with motor overload protection devices.
  • Standard version without a visual indicator.

Reliable Short-Circuit Protection for Motor Circuits

The Mersen FR8AM40V4 is engineered to protect motors and associated electrical equipment against unacceptable short-circuit currents. Its current-limiting operation helps reduce the thermal and mechanical energy transferred to contactors, cables and connected machinery during a fault.

Because the FR8AM40V4 is an aM partial-range fuse, it does not provide complete overload protection by itself. It should therefore be coordinated with an appropriate thermal overload relay, electronic motor protection relay or motor protection circuit breaker.

Typical Applications

  • Industrial motor starters.
  • Machinery control panels.
  • Pumps, fans and conveyor systems.
  • Motor control equipment.
  • OEM automation machinery.
  • Industrial switchgear assemblies.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Mersen FR8AM40V4 used for?

It is used to provide short-circuit protection for industrial motors, motor starters and other electrical loads that experience high starting currents.

What are the electrical ratings of this fuse?

The FR8AM40V4 has a rated current of 4 A and a rated voltage of 400 V AC.

What does the aM fuse characteristic mean?

An aM fuse provides partial-range protection for motor circuits. It protects against short circuits but requires a separate device to provide overload protection.

Does the FR8AM40V4 include an indicator?

No. The FR8AM40V4 is the standard version supplied without a visual blown-fuse indicator.

What size fuse holder is required?

This fuse requires a compatible IEC cylindrical fuse holder designed for 8 × 32 mm fuse links and rated for the applicable circuit voltage and current.
