The Lovato PMA50A415 is a multifunction pump protection relay designed to monitor and protect single-phase and three-phase pump motors against abnormal operating conditions. As part of the dependable Lovato Electric PMA50 monitoring relay series, it combines maximum AC current monitoring with minimum power factor supervision to identify overloads, underload conditions and dry-running pumps.
Designed for systems operating from a 380–415 V AC auxiliary supply, the PMA50A415 provides selectable 5 A or 16 A current measurement ranges. Higher motor currents can be monitored through a suitable current transformer, allowing the relay to protect a wide range of pump sizes and industrial pumping installations.
The PMA50A415 also monitors phase loss and incorrect phase sequence in three-phase systems. Adjustable current, power factor and timing controls allow the relay to be configured around the operating characteristics of the connected pump, providing effective motor protection and helping prevent costly equipment damage when dependable operation is worth its salt.
A pump motor can continue drawing electrical current even when the pump is running without sufficient fluid. The Lovato PMA50A415 monitors both motor current and power factor, allowing it to identify dry running, loss of prime, blocked pumps and sustained overload conditions that may not be detected by conventional overcurrent protection alone.
When an abnormal condition remains present beyond the selected delay, the relay changes the state of its output contact. This can stop the pump, activate an alarm or send a fault signal to a PLC or control system, helping prevent overheating, seal damage and premature motor or pump failure.
