Reduced-Current Starting for Industrial Motors
Star-delta starting reduces the electrical and mechanical stress associated with starting suitable three-phase induction motors. During starting, the motor windings are initially connected in star, reducing the voltage applied to each winding and consequently reducing starting current and starting torque. After the preset acceleration period, the starter changes the motor connection to delta for normal running operation.
The Lovato BFA05070400 combines the contactors and auxiliary contacts required for this sequence into a coordinated open-frame assembly. With an 85 A maximum IEC operating current and 45 kW rating at 400 V, it is suited to substantial industrial motor applications where star-delta starting is appropriate.
