Why Choose the Lovato RTB080 Type B Toroidal Current Transformer?
The Lovato RTB080 is a dedicated Type B toroidal current transformer designed for use with compatible earth leakage relays in electrical protection systems. As part of the Lovato RTB toroidal current transformer range, it provides residual current sensing for installations where Type B earth leakage detection is required.
The RTB080 features an internal aperture diameter of 80 mm, allowing phase conductors and the neutral, where present, to pass through the toroid for residual current monitoring. The earth conductor must remain outside the transformer. In Lovato Type B earth leakage relay systems, the RTB080 is intended for applications with residual current thresholds of 100 mA or higher.
With a robust enclosed construction, 602 g weight and compliance with IEC/EN/BS 60947-2, the RTB080 is suitable for industrial electrical panels, distribution systems and machinery requiring dependable earth leakage monitoring. Its 80 mm aperture provides useful clearance for larger cable groups while maintaining compact installation dimensions.

Key Features
Lovato RTB Type B toroidal current transformer series.
Type B residual operation characteristic.
80 mm internal toroid diameter.
Designed for use with external earth leakage relay systems.
Suitable for residual current monitoring with phase conductors and neutral passed through the toroid.
Earth conductor remains outside the toroidal transformer.
Compatible with Type B leakage monitoring applications requiring higher sensitivity thresholds.
Industrial panel and distribution-board installation.
Reliable Residual Current Monitoring for Type B Protection Systems
Toroidal current transformers such as the Lovato RTB080 detect residual current by measuring the vector sum of the currents flowing through the conductors passing inside the toroid. Under normal conditions these currents balance, while an imbalance indicates leakage current that can be evaluated by the connected earth leakage relay.
For correct operation, all live conductors of the monitored circuit, including the neutral where present, pass through the RTB080 while the protective earth conductor remains outside. The transformer should be installed close to the associated relay, with its connection wiring kept away from power cables and strong electromagnetic fields to help maintain reliable signal integrity.
Typical Applications
Type B earth leakage protection systems.
Industrial electrical distribution panels.
Machinery and automation control cabinets.
Power distribution circuits with larger conductor groups.
Electrical installations requiring residual current monitoring.
The RTB080 is a Type B toroidal current transformer used with compatible earth leakage relays to monitor residual current in electrical circuits.
