Featuring a 60 mm internal aperture, the RTB060 provides additional conductor capacity compared with smaller toroids while supporting monitored circuits with a minimum rated current of 30 mA. Lovato specifically designs the RTB range for use with compatible Type B earth leakage relays, including the RM2DB230, which provides the associated trip-current sensitivity.
The RTB060 offers 10–15% measurement accuracy, IP20 protection and a 2.5 kV insulation pulse test. Its ability to monitor leakage currents containing DC components and frequencies up to 1 kHz makes it particularly useful for applications such as variable speed drives, EV charging equipment, UPS systems, photovoltaic installations and active filters.
Type B residual-current monitoring is important in electrical systems where power electronics can generate leakage currents containing AC, pulsating DC or smooth DC components. The Lovato RTB060 is specifically designed to measure these residual currents and, when connected to a compatible Type B earth leakage relay, can be used to monitor single-phase or three-phase loads including variable speed drives, electric vehicle charging equipment, UPS systems, photovoltaic plants and active filters.
For correct residual-current measurement, all live conductors of the monitored circuit must pass through the RTB060 aperture, including the neutral conductor when present, while the protective earth conductor must not pass through the toroid. Lovato also recommends keeping the toroid-to-relay wiring away from power cables, minimising the connection distance and using shielded wiring where strong electromagnetic fields are present.
